The book tells us a story about a girl's pursuit of better life and her lost in pursuit of it.Carrie,a gril from a low paid family in a little countryside,pure and pretty,timid and simple,boarded the train for Chicago in order to seek for her dream.On the train,Carrie came accross with Drouet,who was a charming and flashy salesman.Hurstwood,a manager and also a married gentleman,fell in love with Carrie soon after their meeting with each other.He had done and sacrificed a lot for her but finally became a begger wandering in the street while Carrie succeeded.

Many people regard Carrie as a"dangerous beauty".They imput Hurstwood's death to Carrie,if she was not so cold blooded,if shewas not so vain,and if she could enjoy present life...Hurstwood could not change from a gentleman to a begger.But I don't think it is all Carrie's fault ,because everyone love beautiful things and better life,especially girls..All girls have the same dream of becoming a shining princess with others' adoration.Carrie didn't do it on purpose.In the pursuit of money,social status and her dreams,she had give up something she had already have.Compared with her dreaming life,she close to abandon her so called"love".We can't say that she was cold blooded or hardhearted,she was just an oridinary girl who lost herself under the temptation of gorgeous material things.Her love to Hurstwood was based on money and social status.Her experience of struggling for better life made her lost the ability to love and the true happiness...She long for happiness,but she realized that she never get it,just as it reads"In your rocking chair,by your window,shall you dream such happiness as you may never feel"...
