There are three motives for which we live; we live for the body, we live for the mind, we live for the soul. No one of these is better or holier than the other; all are alike desirable, and no one of the three -- body, mind, or soul -- can live fully if either of the others is cut short of full life and expression. It is not right or noble to live only for the soul and deny mind or body; and it is wrong to live for the intellect and deny body or soul.

人类生存有三种动机：为肉体而活、为精神而活、为灵魂而活。这三个动机，任何人都是平等。没有谁的动机比别人的更优秀，更神圣，所谓人都有七情六欲。这三者是合而为一的，没有了任何其中的个体，正常人人都是不可以好好活下去的。只认同灵魂而否认精神或肉体是不对的，也并不高尚；只为心智活着，没有满足肉体和需要和灵魂的安宁也是错误的。

We are all acquainted with the loathsome consequences of living for the body and denying both mind and soul; and we see that real life means the complete expression of all that man can give forth through body, mind, and soul. Whatever he can say, no man can be really happy or satisfied unless his body is living fully in every function, and unless the same is true of his mind and his soul. Wherever there is unexpressed possibility, or function not performed, there is unsatisfied desire. Desire is possibility seeking expression, or function seeking performance.

我们都深谙这一点：只为肉体而活，丧失精神和灵魂世界的人是很让人讨厌的。我们明白真正意义上的生活意味着人类在通过对肉体、精神、灵魂三方面的全面体会后得来的完整的诠释。不管有的人怎么说，但任时刻，谁能在身体不舒服时而获得真正的满足或是愉悦？哪里有还没出现结果的可能，哪里有未被实现的构想，哪里就有待满足的渴望。这种渴望也就是人类用来探索到结果的可能因素，为求实现目标而首先出现的构想。

Man cannot live fully in body without good food, comfortable clothing, and warm shelter; and without freedom from excessive toil. Rest and recreation are also necessary to his physical life. He cannot live fully in mind without books and time to study them, without opportunity for travel and observation, or without intellectual companionship. To live fully in mind he must have intellectual recreations, and must surround himself with all the objects of art and beauty he is capable of using and appreciating. 　　

人们没有好吃的食物、舒服的衣妆、温暖的住所，不仅没有了好身体，也没能在繁重的劳作之后得以歇息。休息和消遣也是维持身体的必需。没有了书和学习的时间，没有了旅游和扩大视野的机会，没有了知识上的友谊，人就不可能完善他的精神世界。要想活在完美的精神世界，人必须让大脑得以休息，还得用所有他有能力欣赏得到的艺术和美的事物来陶冶他的情操。

To live fully in soul, man must have love; and love is denied expression by poverty. A man's highest happiness is found in the bestowal of benefits on those he loves; love finds its most natural and spontaneous expression in giving. The man who has nothing to give cannot fill his place as a husband or father, as a citizen, or as a man. It is in the use of material things that a man finds full life for his body, develops his mind, and unfolds his soul. It is therefore of supreme importance to him that he should be rich.

要健全人的灵魂，人得有爱。人们总把爱和贫穷对立起来。一个人最大的幸福来自他所爱的事物，爱的真谛就是给予。不给予的人不管作为丈夫、父亲，还是作为国家的公民或是一个普通的人都是不称职的。正是在对物质的使过程用中，人为他的肉体、思想发展、情操的陶冶找寻到了完整的生命意义。由此可见，富有对他来说是多么重要！

It is perfectly right that you should desire to be rich; if you are a normal man or woman you cannot help doing so. It is perfectly right that you should give your best attention to the Science of Getting Rich, for it is the noblest and most necessary of all studies. If you neglect this study, you are derelict in your duty to yourself, to God and humanity; for you can render to God and humanity no greater service than to make the most of yourself.

你要渴望富有，你想得太对啦！如果你是一个一个正常的人话，你就会情不自禁地要如此渴望。你做的太对啦！你应该把你最主要的精力放在“致富之道”上来，因为这是一门最高尚的、最有必要的学科！如果你无视这门学问，你知道吗，这是在枉费你的权利，是为对上帝和人道的辜负！因为回报上帝和人道的方式，莫过于最大限度开发你自己，尽力量地做你自己！
